PILAR record seller of the 2010 'Pride of Poland' auction |
|
Every year, the Polish stud farms nominate a group of horses for the annual ‘Pride of Poland’ auction that is held at Janow Podlaski at the beginning of August each year and it is combined with the Polish National Show and a stud farm tour to the famous Polish stud farms of Janow Podlaski, Bialka Stud, and Michalow Stud.
In 2010, the Pride of Poland auction offered lots of 36 horses, mostly show and breeding horse of different ages. The event regularly attracts people and buyers from all over the world, but the worldwide economical situation also seems to be reflected a little in the auction as there were not so many buyers there as in previous years. Overall the Polish studs were happy about the result of the sale, even though the record price was much lower than the last few years. The 2010 record seller was the 14-year-old, flea-bitten mare PILAR, a Fawor daughter out of the famous Banat daughter Pipi. PILAR was Polish National Champion Filly in 1997, is a great quality mare, a fantastic mover, with a long and elegant neck, and has proved being a fantastic broodmare. Until now, she has produced eight fillies and two colts, among them the two well known and most successful Gazal Al Shaqab daughters, Pieta and Pinga, and the 2009 auction record seller, Pinta, who sold last year for 500.000 Euro to Halsdon Arabians, Great Britain. So it was more than an excellent and outstanding chance to buy her dam PILAR now, and even for a very nice price of 240.000 Euro 'only'. The buyers came from Qatar, a three-headed team of responsibles of the famous Al Shaqab. "We really hoped that we can get her, she is a magnificent mare and will contribute her qualities and Polish lines to our breeding programme," the manager and head of the Al Shaqab Breeding and Show section. Mohamed M. Al Sulaiti says. "Eventually, we expected her to go much higher in price, so we are really lucky, but also grateful to the Polish studs that we can have now this prestigious mare back home in Qatar and with us at Al Shaqab to breed her to our stallions."
More information and results of the 2010 'Pride of Poland' auction will be published soon in ArabianFlashlights.com and 'Shows/Events'!_____ (12. August 2010) |

The 2010 Egyptian Event - a unique success for Al Shaqab! |
|
It was the 30th Anniversary of the Egyptian Event in Lexington, Kentucky/USA held from 7th to 12th of June, and it became a unique success for the Al Shaqab, a Member of Qatar Foundation. Four horses only had been entered and each won the class. To became champion, one reserve, and both Supreme Championships were also achieved by Al Shaqab. "We are very happy," the manager of the Al Shaqab breeding and show department, Mohamed Al Sulaiti, says. "Not only that our horses won, we are also very proud that they are all of our own breeding."
The Champion Mare and unanimous Supreme Champion Female was the most lovely, feminine 1996 born Egyptian sired NEGMA Al Shaqab, a KAJORA daughter and maternal half sister to world famous GAZAL Al Shaqab.
Champion Colt and Supreme Champion Male, also unanimous, became the two-year-old FARHOUD Al Shaqab, an AL AADEED Al Shaqab son out of the lovely JOHARA Al Shaqab (by Imperial Mahzeer).
Negma Al Shaqab and Farhoud Al Shaqab, are both tracing back to most proven lines of the German straight Egyptian breeding. Negma through her sire, who is Safir (Salaa el Dine x Aisha), a descendant of GHAZAL (by Nazeer) on dam's side; and Farhoud, through Imperial Mahzeer, who is a double MALIKAH (by Ghazal). Also the two ribbon winner in stallions, the Champion and the Reserve, improved the quality and dominance of this great straight Egyptian mare and influence. Both were sons by the US imported MISHAAL HP, who is also double MALIKAH through his dam Mesoudah-M. The influence of the classical German, the modern Qatari, and the American bloodlines were interesting to see in this show. Congratulations to all winners of the Egyptian Event 2010.___________(13. Las Vegas World Cup 2010 ... the Middle East reigns! |
|
The Las Vegas Arabian Horse Breeders World Cup is established in the International and U.S. show schedule as a most interesting event. Since its conception, Las Vegas has became a major focus in the show circus, and horses from the Middle East are now flown in to compete in this show.
The reigning GOLD Supreme Champion Stallion came from the world famous Ajman Stud - the charismatic, snow white ESCAPE Ibn Navarrone. Most successfully shown in Europe and the Middle East and also a former World Champion Stallion, ESCAPE took the title and the ribbons and made his owner HH Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi very happy and proud. He was also the highest scored horse at the 2010 Vegas show. See his records in our "Portrait" sections. Two other Ajman Stud contenders also took GOLD ribbons. In the Senior Mares, it was the 11-year-old Sanadik el Shaklan daughter, EAGLERIDGE PASSIONATA who has also been successfully shown many times in Europe and the Middle East. In the Junior Mares, it was the two-year-old FELICIA RLC, a Shael El Dream daughter, bred in Brazil and purchased as a weanling.
Another Middle East stud also celebrated great success. The famous Al Shaqab Stud, from Qatar, succeeded in Las Vegas 2010 with the SILVER Supreme Reserve Champion in Mares who was the excellent Saqlawi typed NEGMA AL SHAQAB, a 13-year-old home bred and the maternal half sister to Gazal Al Shaqab (both being out of Kajora). MARWAN Al Shaqab - Leading Sire in Scottsdale & Qatar |
|
The path of success marches strongly ahead for MARWAN AL SHAQAB, it is a truly unique one. At just ten years of age, MARWAN Al Shaqab has achieved a major position as sire worldwide, and this after he has himself already won all major titles in halter shows in Qatar, Europe, and the U.S. Now his sons and daughters are carrying on his way of success and the records making him to a leading sire worldwide.
In Scottsdale in February 2010, all halter champions and reserves were sired by Marwan Al Shaqab or his sire, Gazal Al Shaqab, both home bred at Al Shaqab. The well known ABHA PALMA, European and World Champion Filly of 2008, owned by the Al Mohamadia Stud in Saudi Arabia, and a European bred daughter of Marwan Al Shaqab, won Champion Mare and Supreme Champion Female in Scottsdale, while two sons won both titles in stallions, and another one in junior males.
At the same time, MARWAN Al Shaqab was honoured and awarded at the Qatar International Show (ECAHO A-rated) as "Leading Sire of the Show",, with three of his sons and daughters winning Gold and the champion ribbons: the two-year-old KHALIL AL SHAQAB (B./O: Al Shaqab) was Champion Colt; the five-year-old BAANDEROS (O: Al Khalediah Stables, Saudi Arabia) Champion Stallion; and the two-year-old MASHAEL Al Khalediah (B./O. Al Khalediah Stables) Champion Filly.
What a success, what a record for MARWAN AL SHAQAB (and also for his sire GAZAL AL SHAQAB who at least, produced him), and this as both, show stallion AND sire - an unique achievement in the all time history and records! (2. March 2010) |

The Al Khalediah Show 2010 upgraded to 'A' |
|
During the ECAHO meeting in Bruessels on the 11th of July, the Al Khalediah International Arabian Horse Show in Saudi Arabia was upgraded to 'A' show level. The 2010 show will be the third edition. The AKAHF (Al Khalediah Arabian Horse Festival) started in 2008 as an International B-Show. The AKAHF 2010 is planned to be held again at the end of January, starting with the Endurance race, followed by Racing, the Auction, the Show, and for the first time Show Jumping. The AKAHF 2010 will be a six-day-event supported by the generosity, the vision and the ideas of HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan Al Saud, and will be held again at his private Al Khalediah Farm, the Al Khalediah Racetrack, and last year's newly built Al Khalediah Showground and Endurance course - all consistantly set up inside the farm! _____ _(16. Abu Dhabi Int. Show 2009 with very interesting Prize Money |
|
The First Abu Dhabi International Show, held in the middle of February 2009, gave the opportunity for two new trial experiences:
Firstly, six judges were used in each class, with the highest and the lowest score scratched and deleted from consideration.
Secondly, the Patron of the show, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, placed a huge sum of prize money, that was finally allocated by the organizing committee in a very interesting and attractive way. Not only did the champions and reserves get a good share of the prize money, but also the 1st to 5th placed horse in each class gained an amount of 100.000 Dirhams (about 22.000 EUR). The Champions and reserves, and all the special Award winners received an additional amount. Straight Egyptian Mare sold for 3 Million Saudi Riyals |
|
At the Al Khalediah auction on January 25th, held during the 2009 AKAHF festival at the Al Khalediah Farm about 80 km outside the Saudi captal Riyadh, a total of 67 horses were offered, with a great number of the horses sold. Some of the horses did not reach the reserve price, even though the interest was there and a last bid was more than 200.000 Saudi Riyals. However, one horse, the last lot in the day and auction, really hit the nail, beating all expectations and records: Ansata NILE PEARL, a 1997 born straight Egyptian mare by Ansata Hejazi and out of Ansata White Nile. She was sold for 3 Milllion Saudi Riyals (about 640.000 EUR). her buyer is Sheikh Khaled Bagedo, from Jeddah, the owner of the well known Al Khaled Farm that had been based in Egypt for many years while the studfarm's place recently sold. Some horses are based in Jeddah, and a group of show horses in Belgium, to be shown in Europe. One might be curious to see where the newly achieved mare will be placed. PIANISSIMA - The First Triple Crown Winner Junior & Senior |
|
When she appeared at the Polish Nationals in 2004, and just being a yearling age, PIANISSIMA immediately won - not only the title, but also the heart of many people! Within the following month, she also won the three major title shows in Europe (All Nations Cup in Aachen, European Championships, World Championships), and became a so-named "Triple Crown Winner" in the junior age group.
In 2008 , and just four years later, PIANISSIMA - returned from her lease in the U.S., she repeated her success in exactly the same way as years before being Polish National Champion Mare and "Triple Crown Winner" 2008, this time in the senior age group.
PIANISSIMA is the very first horse in history who has achieved the title of Triple Crown Winner in junior AND in senior age!
Congratulations must go to the breeder of this exotic mare, Dr. Marek Trela, Director of Janow Podlaski Stud, in Poland, and his Janow team. ___ (20. Dec. 2008) |

MARWAN Al Shaqab breeding auctionned to 18.000 EUR |

During the 2008 All Nations Cup in Aachen, an exciting step was taken in the international cooperation towards the improvement of the situation of therapeutic riding. Sheikh Hamad Bin Ali Al Thani, Managing Director of the famous Al Shaqab Stud, in Qatar, kindly donated a valuable breeding of MARWAN AL SHAQAB, one of the most important stallions and sires of our days today. This breeding was auctioned to the benefit of the Royal Horse Charity (RCH), an organization based in Germany. The successful bidder was Shirley Watts of Halsdon Arabians, in Great Britain, who achieved the breeding for 18.000 EUR. It was a major step forward in bringing attention to the importance of therapeutic riding. The RCH is very delighted that the community of Arab horse breeders showed once again their generosity!!_ __________________________________________________________ (07. Oct. 2008) |

New 2008 Show in Jeddah and Saudi Arabia |
|
Whilst the neighbouring countries of the U.A.E. and Qatar have their regular schedule of several shows, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has since 1998 only held three National Shows organized by the King Abdulaziz Arabian Horse Center (KAAHC) and the team around Mr. Sami S. Al Nohait, and two shows were held in the western region in 1998 and 1999.
However, the full show circus under the umbrella of ECAHO has now started: in 2007, the First Riyadh Arabian Horse Show was held, well organized from the team of Al Mohamidiah Stud; in January 2008, the First International Al Khalediah Arabian Horse Festival (AKAHF) was held, also in Riyadh. Both will become annual show events in the future. And now, a third show event has been added: on 5th & 6th of November 2008, the First Al Ward Western Region Show will take place, an ECAHO C-show that will be held in Jeddah andorganized from Mr. Ahmed and Salem Badrig.
So we will see, at least, three annual shows in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from now on and in the future. ___________________________________________(12. August 2008) |

KWESTURA sold for 1,125 Million Euro |
|
The 2008 Pride of Poland auction provided a huge surprise and tremendous sensation by making available the 2007 World Champion, Scottsdale, and multiple International Champion Mare KWESTURA, a Monogramm daughter out of Kwesta! So everybody became focussed for the second weekend of August, when the Polish National Show and Auction is held each year. And indeed, this year's auction result became a special event, in total but especially so because of this mare. Three buyers, one from Europe, and two from the Middle East, were bidding against each other to acquire this outstanding and exquisite mare. And finally, the hammer felt down at 1,125 Million Euros - in favour of the happy and proud new owner HH Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and his famous Ajman Stud in the UAE.
In addition, KWESTURA's son, the very typey and elegant two-year-old KABSZTAD (by Poganin) was judged to be the Polish National Champion Colt the day before, repeating his championship titles from the 2008 Bialka Junior Spring Show in June (see our coverage in the 'Shows' section).
KWESTURA is in foal to QR MARC due February 2009 foal. Congratulations to HH Sheikh Ammar on adding this exquisite mare to his collection. ______(11. August 2008) |

A very unhappy moment hit Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, from the Ajman Stud, and his team before the 2008 International Al Khalediah Show in Saudi Arabia in January 2008: whilst unloading the Ajman horses and show contenders from the truck after arrival at the showground in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Ammar's very beautiful homebred yearling filly byMarwan Al Shaqab felt down and broke her leg. Without any moment of hesitation, HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan Al Saud, the patron and host of the show, and the Al Khalediah Stables director, Sheikh Mutlaq Ben Mushref, decided to gift to Sheikh Ammar with replacement by their own Marwan Al Shaqab daughter, the 2004 born, well known and many times successfully shown chestnut NOWARAT AL KHALEDIAH. SKAS Champions at the International Show in Stroehen |
|
Congratulations to our partner and sponsor, the Stables of King Abdullah & Sons (SKAS), Janadria Farm, Saudi Arabia, for it's success at the International ECAHO 'B' show in Stroehen, Germany, held on 15th of July. Their two top contenders were sent and based in Europe for the 2007 show season and each took a title.
The four-year-old, homebred BINT AL SHAMAAL (Koronec x The Cover Girl), our cover girl of the 'Monthly' in July, was judged to be the Senior Champion Mare, and her three-year-old paternal half sister, JAWAHARAT AL SAHRAA (Koronec x Nouf al Talitha) was Reserve Champion Filly.
Already successfully shown in their home country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and at the First Riyadh Arabian Horse Show in March 2007 (see in the 'Shows' section), both achieved the champion title in their specific category, JAWAHARAT among the fillies, BINT AL SHAMAAL among the mares. Many people there were so excited about these two lovely horses, saying that these two horses should compete in Europe to represent Saudi Arabia and His Majesty, the King, and his stud. So BINT AL SHAMAAL and JAWAHART AL SAHRA were sent and arrived in Europe in May. With the show in Stroehen, they had their first great moments in Europe, taking a title each. For sure, they will be seen more often in upcoming major shows._________ __________________________________ (16. July 2007) |

Stallion MESSAOUD (1979-2007) passed away |
|
The straight Egyptian stallion MESSAOUD recently passed away at the age of 28.
Born in 1979, and having received the honor from the German Arab Horse Society as ELITE Stallion himself, he was a son of the ELITE mare, MAYMOONAH (Hadban Enzahi x Malikah) bred by Dr. Erwin Filsinger, who was also the dam of the famous ELITE stallion MAYMOON, her first son.
The sire of MESSAOUD was the EAO bred MADKOUR (by Morafic), who was owned by the late Gunther Seidlitz, from Germany, the breeder of MESSAOUD. Sold to the Rudolph family, they showed MESSAOUD several times in Germany at regional shows succeeding in championship titles. As a young stallion, he won his class at the International C-Show in Paris which preceeded the World Championships in those years, and in 1986, he was the Asil Cup Champion Stallion. MESSAOUD achieved great attention as a sire in the mid 80s when two of his sons were purchased by Imperial Stud from, and subsequently, exported to the U.S.: the straight Egyptian IMPERIAL MADHEEN (*84), a weanling at that time, and later on a famous sire of international influence; and the one year older ORASHAN (*83). Five years later, MESSAOUD followed his sons to the United States, and was based and leased to the German breeder Erich Hagenlocher living in California. The U.S. market did not evaluate this opportunity enough, so MESSAOUD's owners decided to take him back home to Germany after two years. Afterwards, he was presented at public events only a few more times. This was in special displays with the Rudolph family's kids dressed as Arabs sitting on or under MESSAOUD's back, and proving that an Arabian stallion might be a sire, a champion but also a wonderful and handsome companion and family horse. Five years after his famous son Imperial MADHEEN passed away, MESSAOUD has left to the evergreen pastures, leaving more than 500 foals behind.______(25. May2007) |

The very first Las Vegas show was held on 20th to 22nd of April 2007, and was glamourously promoted. One of the main focuses of the organizing team had been to reflect the European way of showing and the European system in the U.S. market and to introduce something new in the country.
Several horses bred in Europe as well as from owners of ECAHO affiliated countries, best known in the European and Middle East show scene were sent to the U.S. to compete at this very first Las Vegas show. Among them, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Saoud al Qasimi, of Albidayer Stud, in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates sent his famous colt MARAJJ (Marwan Al Shaqab x RGA Kouress), and the newly aquired, younger full sister to him. In addition, Al Khalediah Stables, from Saudi Arabia, sent four horses: Multiple Champion and double World Champion res., DAKHARO; the Dubai 2006 Champion Mare ATHENAA, Champion F.SHAMAAL, and their new filly, the 2005 born Om el BERNADETTE.
The First Arabian Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas resulted in a success for both with Albidayer Stud's MARAJJ (see also his Monthly & Portrait) winning the Reserve Championship Colts, and his one year younger full sister, DL MARIELLE, came second in her class.
Al Khalediah Stables and the horses of HRH Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, moved ahead on their great avenue of championship success, now also in the U.S. Al Khalediah Stables took three championship titles: DAKHARO (Dakar el Jamaal x FOF Kharolina) became the 2007 Vegas Champion Stallion; the five-year-old ATHENAA (Ashhal Al Rayyan x Ass Windi) the 2007 Vegas Reserve Champion Mare; and one of their newest achievements, the two-year-old Om el BERNADETTE (Om el Shahmaan x Om el Benedict) became Champion Filly.
'Mabrouk' (=congratulations) to all successful horses, breeders, owners, handlers, and exhibitors, and we are looking forward to next year and the 2nd Arabian Breeders World Cup show in Las Vegas!________________ _____ (22. April 2007)

Double World Champion Stallion PIRUET in Poland |

The 1983 born, double World Champion PIRUET (Partner x Pieczec) returned to his country of origin, Poland. In 2006, he was leased to Janow Podlaski Stud, where he was bred and has now produced some excellent foals. In 2007, he moved to Michalow Stud to be bred to some of the best mares there. PIRUET succeeded twice as World Champion Stallion, 1989 and 1995, and is famous for his exquisite type and beauty of face with a huge, dark eye. Aged 23 years, he has now got another wonderful chance to prove himself as a sire, and we may look forward to seeing his foals from Poland competing. _____________________________ (26. March 2007) |

Imperial PHANILAH passed away |
|
The famous straight Egyptian Imperial PHANILAH (Ansata Imperial x Imperial Phanadah), 1994 World Champion and Middle East Champion Mare, recently passed away. Bred by the Imperial Stud in the U.S. and born in 1984, Imperial PHANILAH was sold to Al Shaqab Stud in Qatar in the 90s. The classical fleabitten mare achieved many show titles, but also produced well. Her most prominent descendant is the multiple Champion AMIRA Al Shaqab (by Al Aadeed Al Shaqab). PHANILAH could not produce any more foals in the last few years, and it was difficult |
|
to keep her in condition. This is why she was retired to have a happy life at the Al Shaqab Stud, grazing and walking around all over the field in full liberty without any borders or fences, to return every evening herself right in time to her stall for the night. Some months ago, 22-year-old PHANILAH was shipped to the U.S. for having some embryo transfers. Before she passed away, some embryos were able to be produced, so her last foal/s might be born while PHANILAH has already moved to ever green pastures .... ______________________ (09. March 2007) |

Ansata and Imperial Stud are closing up to history |
|
The two famous straight Egyptian studfarms are closing up due to individual reasons and age, without any younger family members to take over, Ansata and Imperial Egpytian Stud. Together with Gleannloch Farms who had it's dispersal sale already many years ago, they had been the 'Big Three' in the straight Egyptian breeding in the U.S., starting everything over there in the 60s and 70s, influencing the straight Egyptian breeding worldwide. Ansata is on the last stage of selling the horses and the stud farm property, while Imperial Stud have now announced their 'Good-Bye'. The 2004 Aachen and World Champion Stallion reserve, Imperial Baarez, will stay in the U.S. and gets syndicated to ensure that he stays in the U.S. Ibn Safinaz' book will be closed after this season. Older horses not longer able to breed are placed in nice new homes, other breeding stock to long term clients. Thanks to Douglas Marshall, Judith and Don Forbis, and Barbara Griffith for their longterm power drive and experience. Gleannloch, Ansata and Imperial might be closed and soon be history, but their names, prefixes, and influence in the straight Egyptian breeding will stay! _______________ (05. March 2007) |
