Whenever you get involved with the breeding of straight Egyptian it is impossible to avoid her in a true expertise - very quickly you will become aware of her name and her influence in so many famous and successful straight Egyptian pedigrees, horses and stud farm breeding programmes. She succeeded to become and still is one of the most important ancestors and most important broodmares in the straight Egyptian breeding! We are talking about the Dahman Shahwan mare MALIKAH, by Ghazal (Nazeer x Bukra), and out of Malacha (El Sareei x Moheba). Her name in Arabic means "Queen"! And indeed, she is a queen - a Queen of the straight Egyptian breeding.

Dr. Ekkehard Frielinghaus, an Arab horse expert from the very early days of Arab horse breeding in Germany, wrote in an article about the Filsinger Stud, the home of MALIKAH:

"Ihre Kinder .... Eine Perlenkette von Erfolgspferden ...."
("Her produce .... a string of pearls of success-rate horses....")

In addition, Judith Forbis, the owner of the well known Ansata Arabian Stud, and long term international expert of straight Egyptian bloodlines and horses, author of many articles and books about straight Egyptians, wrote in the book "Authentic Arabian Bloodstock II ":

„For those who saw the beloved matriarch Malikah, she remains an indelible memory.....Born in 1962, Malikah became fleabitten grey, a color of many superior broodmatrons of the breed. Dr. Filsinger proudly introduced us to her against the background of a white winter wonderland, a portrait of old world type and grace with very feminine classic head, expressive eyes, and quite typical of that Dahman family in structure.“

And she continues:

" ... Malikah spent her lifetime by the Filsinger family in Germany, the pride of their life, and deservedly so. Breeders considered her a Grand Lady and a Mare of Distinction in the Arabian breed, indeed many called her "the Queen". She produced 13 foals who have left their mark in breeding programs around the world. To name every individual worthy of mention in this short synopsis is quite impossible. One could write a book about her life, and her many distinguished descendants."

MALIKAH's influence in the straight Egyptian breeding is worldwide, independent that only one of her sons ever left Germany. In the German and purebred Arab domestic breeding, she also made a huge influence through her sons and her first foal, the 1966 born daughter MEKKA, by the Haladin son Saphir. MEKKA is, among others, the dam of the 'Elite' stallion Mansul. MALIKAH's oldest son is MAHOMED, a stallion who influenced the purebred Arabian horse breeding in Germany much. His son, IBRAHIM was champion at the German Licensing show, and many others sons stepped into the ribbons of this obligatory stallions' show of those days. His son MUQATAMM was the first Asil Cup Champion Stallion, in 1985.

MALIKAH's next son, the 1970 born MALIK was sold in 1975 to an Arab sheikh and Emir living in exile in Switzerland. When he died, MALIK was available, and Heinz-Rüdiger Merz, from Om El Arab, saw his chance to obtain this blood and purchased the stallion. MALIK was back in public and bred a lot of excellent sons and daughters, among, the great sire, IBN ESTAHA, a stallion of Egyptian-Spanish cross, who produced many successful show horses in Europe. MALIK is also the sire of the Simeon Stud head sire ASFOUR, in Australia, bred by Dr. Hans-Nagel and sold to Marion Richmond as a yearling. MALIK is also the grand sire of Simeon SADIK, Champion in Australia, Aachen and World Reserve Champion Stallions and sire of World Reserve Champion Filly HS Ramira. MALIK is also the sire of the straight Egyptian mare MUSALIHA, the dam of international multi Champion MOSALLI.

MALIKAH's most successful son as show horse and performer was the straight Egyptian MANAL, born in 1974 and bred by Dr. Erwin Filsinger. MANAL was Champion at the German Stallion Licensing show, Champion at the Asil Cup International Show, and Supreme Champion at the Asil Cup International in 1988. He was also the best Arab stallion at the Stallions Performance Test in Marbach, when he made the obligatory 100-day-test. He produced some extraordinary foals, among them, his 1980 born, but late daughter ZABA Bint Zeenah, an ultra exquisite mare of distinguished type, and a most influential broodmare at the Filsinger Arabian Stud. Her daughter BINT IBN MAYMOON became Champion Filly and Asil Cup Champion Mare, this in the same year, when her grand sire, MANAL, was Champion Stallion. MANAL's successor is his excellent 1991 born son, MOGADOR EL MALIK, a MALIKAH grandson from both side's, sire's and dam's. His dam is MUNIFAH BINT MALIKAH, a Malikah daughter by the outstanding late stallion and great sire, MAYMOON, a MALIKAH grandson! MOGADOR is a triple MALIKAH, very intensely and closely bred to this matriarch - and this is what he reflects and carries on in his foals being of great typey, presence, and very impressive quality.

MALIKAH had definately two very successful "key"crosses succeeding in an extremely high standard and quality: the first years, she was regularly covered by the Nazeer son HADBAN ENZAHI - resulting in her first five foals: the full siblings, the stallions MAHOMED and MALIK, and the mares MAISA (dam of Elite Stallion MAHYUBI Ibn Maisa, and Elite Mare MAYDANA Bint Maisa), MAYMOONAH (dam of MAYMOON, and of MESSAOUD, both 'Elite Stallion), and MOFEEDAH (dam of Asil Cup Champion Mare Morasha, and 'Elite Mare' Bint Mofeedah). When her grand son MAYMOON was old enough, MALIKAH was bred to him and gave birth in 1983 and 1985 to her last two foals - the most exquisite full sisters, MUNIFAH BINT MALIKAH (among, the dam of Mogador el Malik) and MARANI EL MALIKAH (among, the dam of Maharan el Nabil). These two mares are very much important, especially through their two sones MOGADOR and MAHARAN and their produce, of the today's and new focus in the breeding programme of the "Home of Malikah", at Filsinger Arabian Stud.

Six of her sons and daughters are "ELITE" horses honored by the German Aran Horse Society VZAP, while more than 35 horses are tracing back to MALIKAH once or more times honoured as 'Elite' .

MALIKAH's influence to breeders, studfarms and in pedigrees, and to the straight Egyptian breeding worldwide is really outstanding and unique! The list of her direct produce and her descendants is like a list of who-is-who in the straight Egyptian breeding.

MALIKAH's full portrait and much more informations about this mare and her influence in breeding and worldwide will be updated in the future. As Judith Forbis says, the influence of this mare is so big and so intensely, that it is a time filling research and work to bring up all datas and informations - it might fill indeed a whole book. However, we work on it, and will bring it up, step by step.
