From the Arab Culture to a modern Arab Horse

The Founder of "Arabian Sun Horses", the late Abdelmajeed Bentchikou, is from Arab background. Being Algerian by birth, he moved to Belgium some decades ago and still, the Bentchikou family has a base and major business in Algeria.

To keep a part of his home country and something related to his Arab roots , Abdelmajeed Bentchikou discovered the Arabian purebreds and bought his first horses in the 80s. These were grought from Egypt and from the Al Badeia Stud. He also purchased some horses in Belgium, amongst them, the today's matriarch, N.A. Divina, who is by the chestnut Russian Crabbet bred AMAL, former World Champion, and out of the EUBEN daughter HAMIRA.

In 1994, he added some horses from America, amongst, the Egyptian-Spanish bred DIPLOMATT, a son by World Champion SIMEON SHAI, who still remains in the stables of "Arabian Sun Horses" and is regularly ridden.

In the m id 90s, "Arabian Sun Horses" started to show more intensely, and achieved several successes: their homebred DAHMA (Warandes Plakat x N.A.Divina) became Belgian National Champion Filly and European Champion Filly reserve, and her younger full sister LA DIVA also became Belgian National Champion Filly and Champion Filly at the shows in Menton and the "Platinum Cup" in Oostende.

In those years, Abdelmajeed Bentchikou's daughter-in-law, the German Ingrid Bentchikou, became more involved with the horses and started to be very interested in this field, learning fast about everything regarding this breed and the showing aspects, and finally became stud farm manager of "Arabian Sun Horses" and represented this stud in international shows all over the world. She has also changed the programme, selecting the group of horses at stud retaining only a small collection of mares, and only a few homebred youngsters. She decided to breed the mares to internationally known stallions and sires, such as Monogramm, Kubinec, Gazal Al Shaqab, Ekstern, WH Justice, Psytadel, El Amin, CH El Brillo. It was her decision to keep only a few and select group of horses and she decided to build up a group of people and breeders to share her bloodlines and also selling some homebred horses and foals of very good quality - creating a community to distribute the bloodlines and the influence of her breeding.

Several ASH horses have been sold in the last two years to England, and haven been shown, and succeeded without exception: the 2005 born LA DIVA son PSY DREAM (by Psytadel) became amongst others, Champion Colt at the Wales & West show; and then the two ASH bred HANINA daughters, the 1999 born HANISHA (by Diplomatt) became 2007 Champion Mare in England, and the 2002 born HANIYYAH (by Psytadel) was British National Champion, European Reserve Champion Filly and Dubai International Reserve Champion Filly.

In 2007, a very promising young colt was born, ASH ANTARES (Ekstern x La Diva), a younger full brother to the ASH bred and owned show and broodmare, DONNA DIVA, who was sent to training for his first show in May 2007. It took only two weeks for him to be discovered by Sheikh Khaled Bagido's representative who asked immediately for this colt's price. As there was no price (the colt was not at this place for selling but for show training and preparataion for his first show appearance) there was a price offered such that the Bentchikou's could not refuse. So ASH ANTARES was sold, and competed in Frankfurt two weeks later for his new owner, Al Khaled Farm, from Egypt and Saudi Arabia, although he was still entered in the name of Ingrid Bentchikou and listed in the show programme for "Arabian Sun Horses" - but finally winning for Al Khaled Farm and Sheikh Bagidoo. However, the success also belonged to the breeder!

Presently you may find a group of seven broodmares and young mares at "Arabian Sun Horses" in Belgium - the foundation mare N.A. DIVINA and her three daughters, the full sisters DAHMA and LA DIVA (both by double World Champion WARANDES PLAKAT), and her 2005 born daughter DOUNIA (by WH Justice). Also LA DIVA's daughter DONNA DIVA (by Ekstern). Furthermore DAHMA's two daughter's, the 2005 born DAHLIA (by CH El Brillo) and the 2007 born ASH DONATELLA (by WH Justice). And three males: the stallion DIPLOMATT (Simeon Shai x Avila), the 2005 born HAROUN (El Amin x Hanina, a full sister to Dahma and La Diva); and the yearling colt ASH DREAM OF GLORY (by WH Justice).

"I want to make a very careful breeding plan and retain this small group of horses, as for us, the horses are not commercial but fun and enjoyment", Ingrid Bentchikou says. "My husband Amin is not really interested in horses, but one of my two daughters likes horses andenjoys to ride. During all the years, we also had Hanoverian horses bred and trained at our studfarm, and still have a small number which we breed for sports and show jumping. Presently we have one of them with at the training stable of the famous show jumping rider, Nelson Pessoa, in training, and it seems to be that this horse is very talented for the bigger sports. We will see...." Ingrid Bentchikou tells.

People are always welcome at "Arabian Sun Horses" located about one hour south of Bruessels in the industrial area of the town 'Manage' close to Nivelles.
